According to recent research* American children ages 8-18 spend the equivalent of 113 days on electronic media every year. These same children spend four minutes per DAY playing outside. Perhaps most haunting to me is that these young people spend 3.5 minutes in meaningful conversation with their parents every WEEK.
I will now take this opportunity to introduce you to a very special place, called summer camp. The Christian Camp and Conference Association (www.ccca.org) has identified the following benefits experienced in a week at summer camp: adult mentors, nature and adventure, lifelong friendships, temporary community (the opportunity to escape the pressures, limits and challenges of ‘normal’ life at home), and transformed lives.
Camp Heritage exists to help your child experience all of this and more. The nearly 10,000 minutes your child will spend at summer camp this year will be full of opportunities to be challenged physically; develop lifelong friendships; talk through decisions and experiences with caring adults, counselors and other mentors; be surrounded by nature while pursuing adventure; interact with 40 role models showing them Jesus; and return home transformed.
We hope to see you this summer at Camp Heritage!
